Guttering Installation,
Repair and Cleaning
Across South Wales
Your gutters are the first line of defence against water damage. When they fail, water cascades down your walls, saturates foundations, and creates damp problems that cost thousands to fix. We install, repair, and clean guttering systems that channel water safely away from your home — every time it rains.

What This Service Involves
Guttering is one of those elements of your home that you only think about when it goes wrong — and by then, the damage is often already done. A functioning gutter system collects every drop of rainwater that hits your roof and channels it safely to the drains. A failing system dumps that water against your walls, windows, and foundations.
Gwent Roofing and Building Maintenance provides comprehensive guttering services across Tredegar, Ebbw Vale, Merthyr Tydfil, and the wider South Wales valleys. We install new gutter systems, repair damaged sections, replace failed guttering, and provide seasonal cleaning to keep everything flowing freely.

We work with all gutter types and materials: uPVC half-round, uPVC square-line, cast aluminium, and traditional cast iron. For most domestic properties, we recommend uPVC half-round guttering for its durability, low cost, and ease of maintenance. For period properties, we supply heritage-style cast aluminium that replicates the look of cast iron without the corrosion.
Every gutter installation is designed with correct falls — a minimum gradient of 1:350 towards each downpipe outlet. This ensures water moves efficiently to the drain rather than sitting in the gutter. We also calculate the right gutter size and downpipe capacity for your roof area, so the system copes with heavy rainfall without overflowing.
The Damage That Blocked or Broken Gutters Cause
When gutters block, overflow, or pull away from the fascia, rainwater runs down the face of your property. This is not just unsightly — it is destructive. Water saturates render and brickwork, penetrates cavity walls, and creates rising and penetrating damp inside your home. Remediation of serious damp problems can cost £5,000 to £15,000 or more.
Overflowing gutters at ground level cause soil saturation around your foundations. Over time, this can lead to subsidence — the sinking of your building's foundations — which is one of the most expensive structural problems a homeowner can face. Properly functioning gutters prevent this entirely.
Blocked gutters filled with leaves and debris become breeding grounds for moss, algae, and in some cases, small plants. The weight of saturated debris can cause plastic gutters to crack and pull away from brackets. Cast iron gutters are especially vulnerable to corrosion when debris traps moisture against the metal surface.
In winter, blocked gutters create ice dams. Water trapped in the gutter freezes, expands, and cracks the gutter or pushes it off the brackets. When the ice melts, the now-damaged gutter dumps water exactly where you do not want it — against your walls and roof edge.
How We Work
Inspection
We assess your existing gutter system, check falls, identify blockages, and evaluate the condition of brackets, outlets, and downpipes.
Clear Estimate
You receive a written quote detailing the work required — repair, replacement, or cleaning — with no hidden costs.
Cleaning or Removal
For cleaning, we remove all debris and flush the system. For replacement, we remove old guttering and brackets.
Installation or Repair
New guttering is installed with correct falls, secure bracketing, and properly connected downpipes. Repairs are completed using matching materials.
Flow Testing
We test the entire system by running water through it to confirm proper flow, no leaks, and correct drainage.
Why Homeowners Choose Us
Prevents Damp
Functioning gutters are your primary defence against penetrating damp. Every home needs them working correctly.
Protects Foundations
Channelling water to drains rather than against your walls prevents soil saturation and potential subsidence.
Low Maintenance
uPVC guttering requires only annual cleaning. We offer maintenance visits to keep your system clear.
Improves Appearance
New guttering gives your property a clean, well-maintained look. Sagging, stained gutters do the opposite.
Affordable
Gutter replacement is one of the most cost-effective home improvements. The cost of new gutters is a fraction of the damage they prevent.
Matched to Your Property
We supply guttering in a range of colours, profiles, and materials to suit every property style.
Gutter Systems, Materials & Specifications
uPVC half-round guttering is the standard for most residential properties. Available in 112mm and 115mm profiles, it is lightweight, durable, corrosion-proof, and available in white, black, brown, and grey. Half-round profile is the most efficient shape for water flow and is compatible with standard round downpipes (68mm).
uPVC square-line guttering (114mm) offers a more contemporary look and slightly higher capacity than half-round. It is popular on newer properties and is often specified for properties with large roof areas where capacity matters.
Cast aluminium guttering is the premium choice for period properties. It replicates the appearance of traditional cast iron but weighs significantly less and does not corrode. Available in half-round, ogee, and deep-flow profiles, it can be powder-coated in any RAL colour. Cast aluminium carries a lifespan of 30+ years.
We retain expertise in traditional cast iron gutter repair and replacement for listed buildings and conservation areas where original materials must be maintained. Cast iron is heavy, requires rust treatment, and needs regular painting — but for heritage properties, it is the only appropriate option.
Downpipes are sized to match gutter capacity. Standard 68mm round downpipes handle most domestic installations. For larger roofs or areas with high rainfall, we specify 80mm or square downpipes. All downpipes are connected to underground drainage via a shoe fitting at ground level.
Gutter guards and leaf screens can be fitted to reduce the frequency of cleaning. We offer mesh guards, brush inserts, and hedgehog-style systems. For properties surrounded by trees, gutter guards significantly reduce maintenance requirements.
