Extension Types, Construction & Details
Single-storey rear extensions are the most common type we build. They typically extend the kitchen, create an open-plan kitchen-diner, or add a living room that opens onto the garden. Under permitted development rules, many single-storey rear extensions up to 4 metres (detached) or 3 metres (semi/terraced) do not require planning permission.
Double-storey extensions add both ground floor and first floor space — typically a larger kitchen below and a bedroom or bathroom above. These almost always require planning permission and structural engineering. We manage the entire process including structural calculations and planning submissions.
